Introduction

Ti 6Al-4V ELI Titanium Plate is the extra-low interstitial version of Ti 6Al-4V. It is manufactured through careful selection of ingot raw materials with lower specified limits on iron and interstitial elements like Carbon and Oxygen. This grade is the premier choice for medical and dental applications due to its excellent biocompatibility, superior fatigue strength, and low modulus. Known as ASTM B348 Grade 23, it offers enhanced damage tolerance and mechanical properties at cryogenic temperatures.

Fabrication and Heat Treatment

Machinability: Use slow speeds, high feed rates, and ample coolant. Tungsten carbide or cobalt-based tools are recommended.

Forming: Can be hot or cold formed using hydropress, stretch, or drop-hammer techniques.

Welding: Rated as fair weldability.

Heat Treatment: Solution treated at 904-954°C for 2 hours followed by water quenching.

Annealing: Hold at 732°C for 1-4 hours, furnace cool to 566°C, then air cool.

Main Applications

6Al-4V ELI titanium alloy is widely used for medical devices and surgical implants, including artificial joints, bone plates, and orthopedic materials, due to its exceptional plasticity and biocompatibility.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between Ti 6Al-4V and the ELI version?
ELI stands for "Extra Low Interstitials." Ti 6Al-4V ELI (Grade 23) has lower levels of oxygen, nitrogen, and iron compared to standard Grade 5, which results in improved ductility and better fracture toughness, especially in medical applications.
Why is Grade 23 titanium preferred for medical implants?
It is highly biocompatible, meaning it is not rejected by the human body. Its low modulus of elasticity is closer to human bone compared to other metals, and it possesses excellent fatigue strength.
What standards does your Ti 6Al-4V ELI plate comply with?
Our plates are manufactured to meet international standards including ASTM F136 for surgical implant applications and UNS R56401 specifications.
What surface finishes can be provided?
We offer various surface treatments including hot-rolled, peeled, polished, bright, and sandblasted finishes to meet specific project requirements.
Can this material be used in low-temperature environments?
Yes, Ti 6Al-4V ELI is known for maintaining excellent mechanical properties and toughness even at cryogenic temperatures.
What is the typical lead time and MOQ?
The standard MOQ is 100kgs. Lead times vary based on the specifications and processing required, but we maintain a high production capacity of 50,000kg per month.
